Odd-Shaped Closet Organizing

Closet organizing can be a daunting task that often gets put to the bottom of the organizing to-do list.  After all, closets tend to be one of those places where we throw, shove, pile and hide things.  You can close the door and forget about the clutter…out of sight, out of mind.

Because you spend less time in your closets than in larger spaces in your home, a cluttered closet may seem like less of a bother than a disorderly kitchen or living room.  However, your bedroom closet is one of the first places you visit in the morning.  Starting your day with chaos and clutter, not only sends your day’s productivity downhill, but also highly contributes to your overall stress levels.  Who knew your closets had so much power?!

For odd-shaped closets, finding practical, effective organizing solutions can be even more of a challenge.  As Professional Organizers, we have worked with closets of all shapes, sizes and contents.  We know first-hand the struggles you face with closet organizing, so we’ve put together a few quick tips to help you keep your odd-shaped closets organized.  With a little planning and the right fixtures, even the oddest shaped spaces can be organized and functional!

Use Vertical Space!

When space is an issue, look up!  Valuable vertical space is often over-looked.  Narrow vertical shelving not only maximizes space, but also displays your items in a visible and accessible way.

Install Hooks For Hanging

Hooks can be a great solution for hanging items in a space where installing a rod is not an option.  Hooks are perfect for rounded walls, narrow wall space and above shelves.  They work great for items like hats, scarves, bags and seasonal decorations.

Question Your Stuff

Before starting any organizing project, always question your belongings.  Why are they hiding in the closet in the first place?  Do you actually use them, or is the closet just a dumping grounds for items you’re procrastinating discarding?  Remember organized clutter is still clutter!  A neatly organized shelf complete with decorative bins full of stuff you don’t need, want or use isn’t much better than the chaotic piles behind closed doors!

If you have an odd-shaped closet, room or other nook in your home that has become the dumping grounds for all of your miscellaneous treasures, contact us today.  We can design a closet organizing system that works for you and your uncommon space.  Organizing is all about loving to live in a space that brings you joy.  Don’t let your unique architecture be a burden.  Show it off!
